# Painted Crest: the full reference > Arms you make for your family, drawn by the herald’s rules. Facts read from the catalogue on 2026-10-06. Painted Crest by Painted.App. Operated by PaintedApp, LLC, 1327 SE Tacoma St #394, Portland, OR 97202. Support, privacy and legal: support@painted.app. ## What it is Painted Crest makes coats of arms for families. Adopt one of our crests, build one from where your family came from and what it does, or describe the one you imagine and we paint it. Choose the colour around it, add your own words above, across or below, and we print it on canvas, fine-art paper, shirts, hoodies and blankets. Part of the Painted family. - The heraldry engine checks every design against the rule of tincture (no colour on colour, no metal on metal) and draws it as vector art at the full size of the print. - Adoptable crests: 81, drawn from the colours and charges of 31 nations (Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Armenia, Jewish heraldry, United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Australia). None is anyone's recorded arms; national and sovereign arms are excluded. - A crest painted from the customer's own words is made by an image model (gpt-image), moderated before it runs. 4 free passes per visitor, then 10 passes for $10. Previews carry a watermark; the print or file bought does not. - No surname has a coat of arms, and Painted Crest never says otherwise. Designs made here are assumed arms. A grant of arms comes from a heraldic authority; the College of Arms charges GBP 9,600 from 1 January 2026. ## The choices a customer makes 1. The crest: adopted, built from the family, described in words, or written as a blazon. 2. What to make, and its size. 3. The colour around the crest: any colour on paper, canvas and blankets. Shirts come in white, heather grey, black, navy, maroon, forest green; the cloth is the background. 4. Words: up to three lines, above, across or below the crest, in one of four typefaces. 5. A check that the preview is right. Nothing is printed until the customer ticks it. ## Products and prices (USD) Prices are set in the catalogue and re-derived by the server at checkout. ## For the Wall Prints and canvas, from 12 × 18 to 24 × 36 inches. ### Fine-Art Print Your crest on smooth matte art paper, ready for a frame. Not unless you make it so. There is no coat of arms for a surname: the College of Arms says so in those words, because arms belong to a person and their descendants. The crest you make here is new, and it is yours because you made it. ### What does adopting a crest mean? You choose one of our crests and take it up as your family’s. Each was drawn new by our heraldry engine from a nation’s own colours and charges, and none is anyone’s recorded arms. Change any part of it, add your words, and it is yours. ### Can the background be a colour other than white? Yes. Choose from twelve colours, or pick any colour at all, and it is printed edge to edge around the crest on prints, canvas and blankets. On shirts the crest is printed straight onto the cloth, in your choice of six shirt colours. ### Can I add our name or a date? Yes: a line above the crest, a line across the shield, and a line below it, in four typefaces and six colours of ink. The preview shows the letters exactly as they print, and we print nothing until you tick the box that says it is right. ### Can I describe my own crest instead? Yes. Describe it in your words and an image model paints two versions, the shield alone and the shield with helm and crest. The first 4 paintings are free; after that, 10 more cost $10. A painted crest may not keep the herald’s rules, and we say so beside it. ### How much does it cost? Prints from $79, shirts from $49, blankets from $99; digital files $19. Wall pieces come in 12 × 18, 16 × 24, 20 × 30, 24 × 36 inches; shipping is $12 per order. ### What are they printed on? Prints are giclée on matte art paper or Hahnemühle cotton rag; canvases are stretched on wooden bars, the sides carrying your background colour. Shirts are Bella+Canvas and Gildan, printed direct to the garment; blankets are fleece or sherpa, printed edge to edge. ### Where do you ship? We ship to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. Every piece is printed to order by Prodigi (wall pieces) or Printful (shirts and blankets). ### Can I register these arms officially? Not with us: these are assumed arms, and nobody stands behind them but you. The College of Arms grants arms for £9,600 from 1 January 2026, and the Court of the Lord Lyon grants them in Scotland; your design is a fine place to start that conversation. ### Do you draw crests from every tradition? From most. We do not draw the sacred or protected marks of living traditions: Northwest Coast crests, Māori, Hawaiian and Anishinaabe designs, adinkra, the Lion of Judah and Garuda. They are not ours to draw, and we would rather say so than paint a guess. ### What if it arrives damaged or wrong? Write to support@painted.app with a photograph and we reprint it or refund it. Because every piece is made to your design, we cannot take back one that arrived as you approved it. ## Key pages - https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/ · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/make · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/faq · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/about - https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/legal · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/terms · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/privacy · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/refunds - https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/sitemap (every page, for people) · https://paintedcrest.vercel.app/sitemap.xml (for crawlers) ## The Painted.App family - Painted: https://painted.app - Painted Family: https://paintedfamily.com - Painted Whiskers: https://www.paintedwhiskers.com - Painted Pup: https://paintedpup.app - Royal Hound: https://royalhound.app - Painted Mares: https://paintedmares.com - Painted Mane: https://paintedmane.com - Painted Stallion: https://paintedstallion.com - Painted Mythos: https://paintedmythos.com - Painted Wild: https://paintedwild.app - Painted Critters: https://paintedsloths.com - Painted Oceanic: https://paintedoceanic.com - Painted Threshold: https://paintedthreshold.com - Painted Holidays: https://paintedholidays.com - Painted Christmas: https://paintedchristmas.com - Painted Thanksgiving: https://paintedthanksgiving.com - Painted Halloween: https://paintedhalloween.com - Painted Myths: https://paintedmyths.com - Painted Zodiac: https://paintedzodiac.com - Linehaze: https://linehaze.vercel.app - Painted Premiere: https://paintedpremiere.vercel.app - Aura Archive: https://www.auraarchive.art - Stately Vows: https://www.statelyvows.com - Painted Eternal (remembrance): https://paintedeternal.com - Painted Kindred (remembrance): https://paintedkindred.com - Painted Heavens (remembrance): https://paintedheavens.com
